The Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority (PBDA) has begun its Challenge Period for the Capital Projects Fund (CPF) grant program.
The challenge process is designed to prevent grant funding from going to places that are already served. According to the authority, eligible entities that may submit a challenge to a proposed project are internet service providers (ISPs), electric cooperatives, municipalities, or other political subdivisions that offer broadband services. Entities that do not meet these criteria are not eligible to submit a challenge.

The period will continue through Oct. 6.
The PBDA revealed that as of the Aug. 9 deadline, 231 applicants were submitted from 43 different entities, amounting to nearly $1 billion. Only $200 million is available through the CPF program, with a $10 million cap per project.
