GETTYSBURG – Children deserve a chance to become thoughtful and engaged leaders, and that’s what the Broadband Communications Association of Pennsylvania (BCAP) sought to emphasize with its Community Service Award this year.

Attollo, an organization within the Children Deserve a Chance Foundation in Lancaster County, is a rigorous college access/leadership program whose mission is to support success-oriented youth from primarily underrepresented communities.

Its founder and CEO, Jordan Steffy, accepted the award from BCAP President Todd Eachus at the group’s annual Broadband Summit in Gettysburg on April 8.

“Jordan founded this program with the goal of giving back,” Eachus said. “Jordan, who has a professional background in technology and mentorship, is a tremendous success story in his own right. For nearly 20 years, he has used his background, skills and vision to help young leaders reach their fullest potential. That’s what made Attollo a great recipient for this year’s award.”

Attollo, meaning “Rise-Up” in Latin is based on the belief that “Dreams Don’t Work Unless You Do.” This educational preparatory program gives youth participants the mentorship and resources necessary to triumph as leaders at their schools and their communities. Its mission is focused on supporting success-oriented students from diverse backgrounds in their pursuit of academic achievement, self-empowerment and social engagement.

“The mentorship and generosity of others changed my life,” said Steffy. “Today, it’s my purpose to ensure others know what it feels like to be believed in and empowered.”

Throughout its programs, Attollo emphasizes three main areas of growth for their students: radical self-inquiry through reflection and introspection, performing complex tasks at an exceptional level, and sharing their stories in an empowering manner. They accomplish this through rigorous and transformative programming designed to prepare students for college and life in the professional world. Learn more at www.attolloprep.org.

BCAP extends its congratulations to Attollo and thanks its team for their commitment to the next generation of leaders in Lancaster County.
