WASHINGTON, D.C. – A coalition of six state broadband and cable associations released the following statement in regard to several states filing suit against the Nexstar-Tegna merger:
“The state cable and broadband associations of Indiana, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington applaud the lawsuit filed by attorneys general in a number of states challenging the Nexstar-TEGNA merger. As we have shown in our pleadings to the FCC, this merger would clearly violate the statutory 39% ownership cap established by Congress in 2004, violate the FCC’s local television ownership rules, and would raise consumers’ monthly video bills, while reducing the quantity and quality of local news across the country. We urge the court to issue a stay of this merger so the merits of this challenge can be thoughtfully reviewed.”
